Legend of Ganesh Chaturthi 2026
Many stories are behind Ganesha Chaturthi. According to one story, Goddess Parvati created child Ganesha using sandalwood paste and gave him life. She appointed him as her guardian and instructed him not to permit anyone inside her private area.
Later, when Lord Shiva came to meet Parvati, the child Ganesha denied his entry without knowing that Lord Shiva was her husband. Annoyed, Shiva fought with child Ganesha. When Parvati came out, she found her guardian was dead with a severed head. After knowing the truth, Lord Shiva ordered that child Ganesha’s body be joined with an elephant head. The child Ganesha was then restored to life and was called Lord Ganesha. Thus, his birthday is celebrated as Ganesha Chaturthi.
