What is called the Birth Star?
Vedic astrology identifies 27 stars, or Nakshatras. The star, or Nakshatra, in which the planet Moon (Chandra) transits or is placed in an individual’s horoscope at the time of birth, is called the Birth Star, or Janma Nakshatra. These 27 stars recur in a cycle, with each reappearing monthly and 12 times a year. The Birth Star, or Janma Nakshatra, also follows this cycle. An individual's star is determined by the Moon's placement at birth, and the lunar month of its recurrence marks their star birthday.
Individuals perform the Birth Star Pooja on the day of the birth star. Birth Star Puja is also known as Nakshatra Pooja or Birthday Puja.
