According to legends and Hindu scriptures, Lord Murugan was born as six babies and was raised by the Six Karthikai Pengal. Later, Parvati combined them as a single baby, bearing six heads on the auspicious Aadi Krithigai day. This event is the main reason for observing Aadi Krittikai.
